remember the days

remember the days
when we would
watch the raindrops
race each other
down
the
window?
when cardboard rolls
were telescopes
and
plastic bags were
parachutes?
every day was
an adventure
rather than
a
chore
and even
the simplest things
had meaning.
where are those days
now?
they are locked
away in the
treasure chest
of memory--
reminding us
that it is
the little things
which bring the
greatest
joy.

So be honest--what did you think? I don't claim to be a poet, but I just wanted to experiment with some free verse poetry this month. Sorry for the random mid-week post. ;P

  1. *squeaks and pets the pretty words* MARY HORTON. Okay, being honest here - YOU ARE A GENIUS. Seriously, I loved this SO. MUCH. And I can totally relate.
I've always wanted to write something kind of like this, but never could find the words - so thank you for sharing this ;).

  2. Mary. MARY. MARYYYYY. I ADORE THIS!!!!!!!!!! Not only is it gorgeously perfect, but it DID make me remember those days. It made my mind immediately jump to my childhood and brought me happy, fuzzy feels. Your words gave me feeeeels. And I love the message at the end--how those days should remind us to find joy in the little things. Yes, yes, yes!

This is absolutely beautiful. YOU NEED TO DO MORE OF THESE.
