Twelve Things You Probably Don't Know about Moi

I'm in major freak-out mode right now because I'm dreadfully behind in just about everything. Which means NO ONE LOOK AT MY NANO WORDCOUNT RIGHT NOW, PLEASE AND THANK YOU. (In case you're interested, it's dreadfully low because mischievous squirrels have been popping out of nowhere and setting back my wordcount. THIS IS THE TRUTH, I SWEAR.)

Anywho. I apparently haven't posted in over a week? Yeah. Which means I had to scrounge for time to write this post whilst hiding away upstairs from people and being an antisocial dragon. #introvertproblems

I've been seeing this link-up called Top Ten Tuesdays floating around on a bunch of friends' blogs and decided that last week's looked fun. (I'm totally on time. :P)

So I hereby present to you...twelve random things you don't know about me (and probably don't wish to).

And you're getting a dozen facts about me because I'm awesome and can't be confined to just ten. *cough*

#1. I can't stand the sound of someone biting into a popsicle. Yeah, this one's a little weird. Every time someone bites into a popsicle, my skin crawls. UGH. It's like nails against chalkboard. DO NOT BITE INTO A POPSICLE IN MY PRESENCE, PEOPLE.

#2. I actually get stressed out when I don't read books fast enough. By habit, I'm not an extremely fast reader. It usually takes me a while to read a book. *says the one who just read a book in less than two days* So if I only read three or four books a month, I actually get stressed out. BECAUSE EEP, I NEED MORE BOOOOKS. I must read them all!!!

#3. I'm a surprisingly stubborn person. Oh, you don't like the snow, do you? Allow me to hand you a list of the reasons why snow is actually the best thing ever. Nothing you say will convince me otherwise. (Yes, I have actually gotten defensive about my love of snow before. XD)

#4. I don't like tea. SOWWY. I just really don't like the taste of tea. I finally tried hot tea for the first time and...nope. I can't make myself drink it. (Unless it's raspberry tea, which tastes nothing like tea so that's why it's good.)

#5. Having a schedule makes me stressed but not having one also makes me stressed. Very contradictory, I know. But when I have a schedule, I can become EXTREMELY stressed if I don't follow through with everything exactly as I had it laid out. On the other hand, if I'm out of my normal routine, I become even more stressed because GAH, EVERYTHING IS SPONTANEOUSLY SCARY. And that probably made no sense at all. XD

#6. I like to sleep with a flat pillow. Is that normal? Because I actually traded my pillow for my sister's flat one. (Still, hotel pillows are the best. I love it when my head will just sink into it. *sighs*)

#7. I tend to get very claustrophobic. Which means crowds are a big no-no. As are couches with a bunch of people squeezed onto it. NO THANKS. And let's not forget airplane seats. Those are always loads of fun. :P

#8. I really want to go zip-lining someday. I am somewhat of a daredevil (though you'll never catch me sky diving) and have always really wanted to zip-line. It just looks like so much fun!

#9. I hardly ever sunburn, tan, freckle, or get mosquito bites. My skin seems determined to stay a ghostly white color. (Except I did get sunburned a couple weeks ago. But it was only the fourth time in my life so yesh.)

#10. I don't like soda. I KNOW, I'M A STRANGE CREATURE. But carbonation and I don't get along. We just have a mutual distrust, I s'ppose. Oh, but I will occasionally drink Sprite! So I'm not completely hopeless. XD

#11. I will give virtual hugs but actual physical hugs are not my thing. I guess I just don't like people touching me. Or my books. Or really anything that I own. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

#12. I have double-jointed knuckles and thumbs. This fact is both intriguing and disturbing. And I also crack my knuckles, which apparently bothers a lot of people.

<><><><><><>

Hopefully this post didn't put you to sleep. I basically wrote the entire thing in one sitting and was too lazy to really format it well. I guess writing a post while being away with lots of extended family members was not the smartest thing to do. :P

(Also, I just realized that I didn't finish this in time to add it to the link-up widget. D: Aw man.)

So tell me. Do YOU have any weird pet peeves? What's your opinion on hugs and tea? Oh, and do you read fast or slow? ANSWER ME, PEASANTS. ;D

  1. I tend to read very fast unless I'm busy... I've currently got four on the go (thanks uni thanks SO much -_-) but it's fun when I love the books I'm reading! :D

Great post! I'll be back soon, work calls

    1. Luckyyyy, I wish I could read fast. :/ Hehe, isn't it great when you get interrupted by school? :P

      Thanks, Evie! ^_^

  2. I can totally relate to being in "freak out mode". I'm not there at this precise moment--thankfully--but I'm pretty sure I could get there in the snap of a finger if I only allowed myself to focus on the all the things I need to get done, instead of pushing them to the back of my mind. Because, to be honest, I'm woefully behind on some of my own writing projects at the moment, and that never sits well with me. I hate being behind on things. :P

    1. Haha. Personally, I've never had a problem with popsicles, but I can see how it might have the same effect as fingers on a chalkboard to some people. I promise I won't bite a popsicle in front of you. (Though, actually, I don't know why I'd want to bite it anyway. Too cold. Hurts my teeth. ;))

    5. Oh my goodness! That is so me! "I MUST have a schedule or I'm going to go nuts!" "Noooo! I can't stand schedules. They're always getting messed up. Better to be without a schedule than constantly fail to keep it on track!" Haha. And that Mary Poppins' gif was perfect! :D

    6. Flat pillows! I used to have a VERY flat pillow. And I liked it, but I finally decided it was time to get a new one. So I did. It gave me a kink in the neck the first night, but I've gotten used to it since then and now it's quite comfortable. (That's so funny that you traded pillows with your sister specifically to get a flat one. I mean, WHO DOES THAT? Heehee.) :P

Weird pet peeves? Hmmm...well I sort of can't stand it when someone makes a movie of a book, and then forgets the book even existed and totally mixes up the whole story! Grrr. (Maybe that isn't such a weird pet peeve, though. What do you think?)

As to tea, well, it's not my favorite--a bit too tasteless in my opinion, but I can drink it (especially if I can have it in a pretty china tea cup *wink*). Still, it's definitely not my first choice of a beverage.

Hugs? Well, I'm not opposed to them, but I wouldn't call myself an extremely huggy person. (Sorry, apparently "huggy" is not a word. Ooops. ;)) However, if it's a hug from my mom or dad, then, yes! I love hugs. :)

Oh my! I really don't know whether I read fast or slow. I guess it just depends on how much time I'm devoting to it. I once read Nicholas Nickley in a week, which I thought was pretty fast; but then at another time it took over a month to read Mansfield Park...so yeah, it's kind of confusing. :P

Good luck with your writing, Mary! Tell those mischievous squirrels to stop popping about, and let you concentrate!!! :D

    1. Oh my gracious, being behind on things is the WORST! (I'm oooobviously not behind...says the one who replies to this comment two months later. :P) It's good to know that I'm not the only person who struggles with this!

I'm getting shivers just thinking of it. *shudders* Haha, it is a lot like nails on chalkboard! That's why it drives me nuts. XD (Yeah, I honestly don't know why people do it. TOO MUCH COLD.)

Good golly, are you really?! I thought I was the only one! We're such paradoxes. XD (And thank you! Mary Poppins gifs are always appropriate. ;D)

I'm...quite interesting, to put it mildly. ;) I've had this same pillow for aaaages, which means it's flatter than a pancake. :P Maybe eventually I'll try a normal pillow. :D

Not a weird pet peeve at all, at least in the realm of bookdragons! I personally don't like it when film makers completely screw up a book--though I don't mind the use of creative license, within reason. This topic actually merits an entire post. Perhaps someday... ;)

Same here! It actually has a very bizarre flavor, in my opinion. Blegh. :P (Though yes, pretty china tea cups make everything better!)

I will accept hugs from close friends and family, so I'm not COMPLETELY against them. XD I guess we're on the same page. :D (Whaaaat, huggy isn't a word?! Oh well, I'll still be using it because I'm a rebel.)

*nods* I completely get it! Sometimes I'll read a book within days, but other times it takes me like...a month. *cough* I suppose it just depends on the style of writing that the book has. Classics always take me longer than others because of the deep, rich language used. :)

Awww, thanks so much, Miss March! Your lovely comment made my day. <3

  3. Weird pet peeves? Hmmm. When people get in my bubble without my permission. Or when people don't use the proper usage of a word (one person in my public speaking class used the word "gourmet" with ramen noodles, and I was like "ehh, no.").

Hurried posts are, in my opinion, the most fun to read, because it lets everyone know that they aren't the only ones life likes to toss around.

    Hugs? No touchy.

    Tea? Yes please!

I love to read, and I can read fast, but I haven't had time to do much. Saturdays and Sundays have been especially refreshing in that sector.

    Excellent post! :D

Keep on writing, or else giant marshmallows will chase away the plot bunnies! *wiggles eyebrows*

    1. Haha, well, I wouldn't consider those that weird, honestly. At least...in comparison to mine. :P (This made me laugh for some reason. Gourmet ramen noodles...just, yeah, whatever you want to say to convince yourself. XD)

I'm glad you think so! Sometimes Life happens, and you just have to roll with it. :D

No hugs for me either. ;)

Ah, yes. The weekend. *smiles gleefully* I've been spending basically this whole weekend responding to an excessive amount of blog comments, but hopefully I'll get some reading in later. ^_^

      THANKS, CHLOE!!! *devours giant marshamllows*

  4. This was fun, Mary! You didn't bore me! :)
I LOVE both hugs and tea--like, really love. I actually used Olaf's warm hugs quote on the "About the Author" page of my blog. *cough cough* But I understand why you don't like them, I'm just recently started getting into to tea.
Moving on, I'm generally a fast reader, but three or four books a month is impressive for me. I have too many things to do in between books. Unless you count re-reads? I re-read EVERYTHING. I just read The Fellowship of the Ring for the sixth time. *sheepish shrug*
I don't have a lot of pet peeves, but I am kind-of the germaphobe among my friends, and it's actually pretty fun. :)

    2. Yay, I'm so glad! XD

Hugs and tea...it TOTALLY sounds like I should like them but *shrugs* I'll leave the hugging to you and Olaf. :D

BUT WAIT. WHAT'S THIS. HOW DID I NOT KNOW YOU HAD A BLOG?!

Ack, I understand the struggle! Life really gets in the way of reading sometimes. *glares* WHOA, YOU'VE READ FOTR SIX TIMES? I...hardly ever reread anything anymore. There are just sooooo many books in my TBR that I don't have the time. D:

Haha, I'm a germaphobe, too! I agree, it is fun. XD

      (Yesh, another non-soda advocate! *fistbump*)

  6. MARY. *tackles* I'VE MISSED YOU.

I'm sorry you're in freak-out mode. But I KNOW you can do this. You've already made it past halfway through the month. It's gonna be over before you know it. Just keep pushing on!

These facts were too fun to read!

I read fast AND slow. XD Because sometimes I'll blaze through a book in like a day, in then sometimes I'll be in the same book for weeeeks. There is no in between with me. >.> Although I HAVE stressed over taking too long to read a book before, I totally get that. But I have to remind myself I read for FUN, I don't have to read a book in like one sitting. So usually I just take my time and read when I can.

I don't drink hot tea much either. Though it's something I'd like to try to get into, but it's not my favorite thing.

Annnd I'm not much for touching. Or people touching my stuff. I TOTALLY GET YOU. I like my space. But what's weird is I pretty much ALWAYS greet all my friends with hugs. I think I just happened on a lot of huggy friends when I was young so it became a habit. XD But naturally I don't like to be touched. *settles comfortably in personal bubble*

NUMBER 5! SO MUCH YES. I THRIVE on goals and schedules but...I'm also OCD about them and stress about achieving them. But without a schedule I'm a mess. SO I DON'T EVEN KNOW. (The Mary Poppins gif was perfection. XD)

I want to go zip-lining tooooo. That'd be amazing!

I'm so jealous of you never getting sunburned. All I have to do is step outside and the sun laughs menacingly at my ridiculously white, exposed skin. >.>

And you don't like soda? *LE GASP* Coke and I are soulmates. <3

Keep writing! Keep being awesome! You got this! *fistpump*

    1. AWWW, YOU'RE SWEETER THAN COOKIES. <3333

Oh my, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. Some books take me foreverrrr to read, but other ones I'll finish in like two days. :P Yup, having fun is the whole point of reading! I just have to keep reminding myself not to stress about it and enjoy myself. ^_^

I wish I liked it, too. Hopefully one day?

YESSSS. Exactly! No touchy. ;) Though to be honest, it's rather difficult to avoid hugging whenever I go to church and such. XD I don't want to seem rude by not hugging people sooo...yeah. I just do. :P

WE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE, I TELL YOU. So much yes! Schedules and I have a love/hate relationship. I stress with one...and without one. I is a confused dragon. o.O (Why yes, it is. ;D)

LET'S GO TOGETHER. *books plane ticket*

Awww man! D: Getting sunburned is no. fun. UGH. *opens deflective shield to protect you*

IT'S A CRIME, I KNOW. I'll drink Sprite occasionally, but that's about it.

*huggles your comment* This is from ages ago, but I can ALWAYS use the writing encouragement! <3

  7. Great post, Mary!!! I should do one of these... =)
And to comment on number four, I've actually never had tea before. But the raspberry flavor sounds like something I would try! (whaaat did I just forget how to spell raspberry?! Don't worry, I fixed it. =))
Ooooh, zip-lining....I'm probably going to go on one next month as part of a home-school activity, but from what I've heard, it's very short. =) That's okay for starters, though. =)Only thing I'm concerned about is getting motion-sick....:/
Whaaaat you don't get mosquito bites?!?! Girl, you do not know how lucky you are. ;) Ghostly white skin? Pshaw, I'm sure you're beautiful (I'm seeing inner beauty already ;)) !
Keeeeeep writing!!!! You can do this!!

Raspberry tea is sooo good! It tastes nothing like regular tea, though. (Which is probably why I like it. XP)

OH! Did you end up going? How was it?? Hopefully you didn't get motion sickness!

Noooo, I actually don't! Very rarely I will get them (mostly when I go to Kentucky).

      *blushes* Awwww, you darling! <333

      THANK YOU SO MUCH, ARIEL!

  8. I LOVE THIS POST *flails* MARY IS BACK!!! *hugs you* And nope, I won't go look at your word count. Thing is, I've been keeping up with it. So I know (roughly) what it is anyways XD.

Hugs? Sure. Tea? ... I have yet to try one that I like. AND I READ FAST. Like, seriously fast. I think I've read about 16 books this month.

I have plenty of weird pet peeves! Oh, you want to hear some? Fine, since you shared XD. I only like to write with gel pens. I go berserk if anyone bends the covers of my books. I do NOT do well in the heat.

YOU CAN WIN NANOWRIMO MARY I KNOW YOU CAN!!! *gives you mischievous squirrel spray* That should keep 'em away :D. DON'T GIVE UP!!

      You stalker you. ;)

:O :O :O YOU READ 16 BOOKS IN 19 DAYS. How even??? I wish I had your superpowers, girl!

I don't do well AT ALL in the heat, either. Which is inconvenient because where I live summer lasts about 3/4 of the year. :P AND NOOOO, NOT BENT BOOK COVERS. *dies* That's the worst thing ever! D:

*sprays mischievous squirrel spray by writing desk* Yesh, I think it worked! :D

  10. Oh ma gash, more proof of how alike we are. I love snow and hate soda too! And I don't drink tea. AND I hate to give real actual hugs. Which is really unfortunate, because I live in a part of the South in which everyone hugs "hello" and "goodbye". It's a given. And I don't want to seem cold or anything. *SIGH*. My pillows are relatively flat as well . . . am I missing anything? Oh of course, hotel pillows are to die for. So SOFT. It's like sleeping on marshmallows!

I'm also very stubborn. I don't lose ANY arguments about things that are important to me. And I REFUSE to let anyone change my views on ANYTHING, even the teensy tiniest bit. Usually :P

P.S. I read at the speed of light.

    1. WHOA. We are REALLY similar! I had no idea!

      Snowwwwwww. <3

HA. I totally understand the hugging struggle. XD People at my church hug every other second it seems. ;) AND YESH. HOTEL PILLOWS ARE MARSHMALLOWS.

Hehe, we shall be stubborn together. ^_^ I get surprisingly defensive about my love of snow!

      (Luckyyyy!)

  11. I LOVE THIS POST! *hugsss*

^Guess that was a cue that I love hugs. Very much so. I'm a hugger, but I won't do it if I suspect that it will make someone uncomfortable. :P

Tea? I don't love it. But sometimes it is the perfect thing to warm me up on a cold day. (not that we have many cold days here in Nevada, but... ALABAMA WILL. *is excited*)

I read slow-ish. I write slow-ish, too. I read slow because I like to soak everything in and sometimes take notes. I write slow because of that annoying inner editor. *cough* xP

OH, THAT'S WHERE YOU MOVED?! Awesome! I have some family in Alabama actually. ^_^

Yeah, same here. I read AND write slowly for the most part. But...mostly just write slowly. My WIP is at a standstill right now. *sighs*
